Purpose of the job:

The Aviation Maintenance Instructor - San Marcos TX is responsible for the delivery of world-class training to the employees of the BAI Maintenance department and related contract personnel. The incumbent will teach, educate and coach BAI’s Maintenance Training Program and related directed courses including, but not limited to: 14 CFR part 135, 145, and 91, Safety, Fire Training, Human Factors, Drug and Alcohol, HAZMAT Familiarization, Basic Aircraft Movement, Jacking of Aircraft, Suspected Unapproved Parts, General Maintenance Manual, Forms, Deferred Maintenance, MTLM, aircraft familiarization, Receiving Inspector, Airworthiness release, and engine start/taxi/run. Additional curriculum and material may be required. This role is also expected to develop and maintain related course-ware, training aids, and related administrative processes and procedures.


Reports administratively and functionally to the Director of Training.

Major duties include, but are not limited to:

  1. Instruct & Coach required maintenance training program courses
  2. Update and maintain course-ware to support maintenance training program
  3. Authors new course-ware for new curriculum
  4. Sever as a liaison for and between students, BAI Training and BAI leadership on training issues
  5. Other Projects and duties as assigned by Director of Training
  6. Authors and edits training program manuals, course-ware, and other training documents.
  7. Authors and edits training department processes and procedures.
  8. May act as a direct liaison to government oversight agencies for all training-related matters.
  9. May acts as a direct liaison with external providers of training products and services.
  10. Acts as direct liaison with internal customers of training department services.Other duties as assigned.
  11. Other duties as assigned

Experience and Skills:

- 5+ years as FAA certified A & P Mechanic required

- 3+ years of previous classroom instructor experience required

- Previous 14 CFR 135 and 145 maintenance experience highly desired

- Experience grading and evaluating students highly desired

- 3+ years of adult curriculum design desired

- Experience with distance learning capabilities and programs desired

Minimum education level to perform essential functions of the job:

- High school diploma

- FAA A&P Certification

Unique skills or certifications needed to perform essential functions of the job:

  • Public speaking and teaching
  • Computer skills to include PowerPoint, Excel, and on-line video meeting
  • Curriculum design
  • Experience conducting aviation-specific research and authoring and editing both controlled and uncontrolled documents.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to problem-solve and make decisions
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to become proficient in the operation of various custom software applications
