Purpose of Job:

The Director of Training (DOT) is responsible for all aspects of the training of company employees and contract personnel as well as the development and maintenance of all training programs, and their administration, including training program manuals, courseware, training aids, facilities, and administrative processes and procedures. The DOT exercises continual oversight and direction for all training department activities and functions as the direct supervisor to all training and non-training members of the department’s staff. The DOT functions as the direct liaison with all external oversight agencies, external training product or service vendors, and internal users of training dept. services.


• Responsible for all aspects of the training of company employees and contract personnel that perform work in accordance with (IAW) company programs.
• Responsible for ensuring all company employees and contract personnel are trained IAW company, industry, and regulatory requirements.
• Responsible for developing and maintaining training programs IAW company training needs, applicable CFRs, guidance documents, and industry standards.
• Responsible for developing and acquiring courseware, training aids, and facilities necessary for the administration of training programs.
• Responsible for developing and maintaining training department standards, processes, and procedures to facilitate administration of training programs.
• Responsible for assessing training department staffing levels, providing staffing level recommendations, and maintaining staffing levels, within approved budget constraints, sufficient to fulfill company training needs.
• Responsible for establishing standard metrics for determining training department outputs meet or exceed capacity and quality objectives.
• Authors and edits training program manuals, courseware, and other training documents.
• Authors and edits training department processes and procedures.
• Directly supervises trainers and administrative members of the training department staff.
• Recruits, hires, and trains administrative personnel and trainers.
• Acts as direct liaison to government oversight agencies for all training-related matters.
• Acts as direct liaison with external providers of training products and services.
• Acts as direct liaison with internal customers of training department services.
• Other duties as assigned.


Experience and Skills:


• High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
• Airline Transport Pilot Certificate (Aircraft Multi-Engine Land)
• Minimum 2 years’ experience as instructor pilot and/or check pilot under an FAA Certificated Air Carrier training program, or equivalent experience (e.g., Part 142, Military, or Other Govt. Agency).
• Minimum 1 year demonstrated leadership/management experience
• Expert knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations and aviation training and testing standards.
• Experience conducting aviation-specific research and authoring and editing both controlled and uncontrolled documents.
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
• Ability to problem-solve and make decisions
• Working knowledge of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
• Ability to become proficient in the operation of various custom software applications


• Bachelor’s degree in a related field
• Previous experience as a Director of Operations, Chief Pilot, or Director of Training within the aviation industry
• 5,000 + hours total flight time, 2,000 + hours Pilot in Command in turboprops, turbojets, and/or transport category aircraft requiring more than one required crewmember.
